Lit Fest: In Pursuit of Poetic Gems - Workshop with Sophie Herxheimer (In person)

We’ve partnered with Arvon, the national creative writing charity, to bring you two inspiring, interactive writing workshops as part of The London Library Lit Fest.

In this first workshop, celebrating the Lit Fest themes of collections and collecting, we'll explore the Library's stacks and plunder the treasures on its shelves to create found and collage poems. Artist and poet Sophie Herxheimer, who uses collage in her own work to beautiful, poignant and often very funny effect, will lead you into the depths of both the Library and your own creative imagination to unearth poetic gems.

The workshop will run from 11am to 1pm at the Library. Tea and coffee will be provided throughout the workshop.

Sophie Herxheimer is an artist and poet. Her work has been shown at Tate Modern, the Thames festival, the sea-front at Margate and Mrs Beeton’s grave. Her collection Velkom to Inklandt was Poetry Book of the Month in the Observer, and a Sunday Times Book of the Year. Her book  60 Lovers to Make and Do, was a TLS Book of the Year and her latest collection is INDEX, a box of 78 collage poems, published as a deck of prophetic cards.

Arvonis the UK's leading creative writing charity. For over fifty years, they have supported writers of all stages to discover and express their creativity and individual voice through residential activity at their three heritage properties based in Devon, Shropshire and West Yorkshire as well as online.

NB Attendees will be able to access The London Library from 10.45am ahead of the workshop starting at 11am. Please see our Event Access and COVID Guidelines before you arrive.
