Chaired by screenwriter and novelist, Daisy Goodwin, Jillian and Caroline will discuss the difficulties behind getting published today, the publishing process, current trends in the market, and exactly what you need to do to improve your chances, followed by a Q&A with the audience.

Caroline Michel has been the CEO of PFD since 2007. Before that, she headed up the William Morris Agency for three years. She has over 25 years’ worth of experience in the industry and ran both Vintage at Random House and Harper Press at HarperCollins. She is Chair of the Hay Literary Festival, Chair of the BFI Trust, and was a Trustee of Somerset House. She is a Fellow of the RSA, Vice President of The London Library and sits on the Arts and Media Honours Committee.
Jillian Taylor is Publisher for Fiction and Non-fiction at Penguin Michael Joseph, an imprint of Penguin Random House. Jillian started her career in academia, as a medievalist, before moving into publishing a decade ago. She has worked with authors ranging from Anthony Beevor to the late John lé Carre, and currently divides her list between novelists and narrative non-fiction authors and historians. She has edited many Sunday Times bestsellers, Richard & Judy selections and Waterstones Books of the Month. Authors she has worked with have won or been finalists for: the Man Booker Prize, Women’s Prize, Wolfson History Prize, Welcome Book Prize, Baillie Gifford Prize, Dylan Thomas Prize, Costa Book Awards (sadly defunct) and the Rathbone Folio Prize. Recent and upcoming titles on Jillian’s list include Stephen Fry’s Mythos, Joanne Paul’s The House of Dudley, Jack Cornish’s The Lost Paths, Dawn French’s Because of You, Caroline Lea’s Prize Woman and Costanza Casati’s Clytemnestra.
Daisy Goodwin is a writer, journalist and BAFTA-winning TV producer. After ten years at the BBC making arts documentaries, she left to join the independent sector and created a number of programmes including Grand Designs and The Nation’s Favourite Poems. In 2005, she started Silver River productions, which she sold to Sony in 2012. Alongside her TV work, Daisy has written a memoir, Silver River and two novels My Last Duchess and The Fortune Hunter, which were both New York Times bestsellers. In 2014, Daisy was commissioned to write her first screenplay, Victoria, an 8-part series for ITV.
