Fundraising Events and Venue Hire Manager

The London Library is a registered charity, an internationally important centre of creativity and one of the UK’s greatest literary institutions, providing inspiration and ideas for over 180 years. The Library continues to have a significant and unique impact on the country’s literary and artistic output with extensive resources including a borrowing collection containing over 1 million books and beautiful reading spaces in the heart of St James’s as well as extensive e-resources. Prominent members have included Charles Dickens, Charles Darwin, Bram Stoker, Virginia Woolf, Angela Carter, Daphne du Maurier, Stanley Kubrick, and Ian Fleming. Current writers in membership include Kazuo Ishiguro, AS Byatt, Raymond Antrobus, Simon Schama, Jessie Burton and Sarah Waters. The London Library provides inspiration for readers, writers and thinkers and is a home for everyone who loves the written word.
As Fundraising Events and Venue Hire Manager, you will work with our Fundraising Director, Senior Fundraising Operations Manager and other members of the Fundraising Team to deliver fundraising events and the Library’s venue hire.
You will plan and oversee all aspects of the fundraising events programme, including patron, donor and prospect events, in line with the fundraising events strategy. You will coordinate and manage major fundraising events including the Chairman’s dinner and lunches, the Library’s President’s Christmas and Summer parties and fundraising galas. You will build relationships with external suppliers to ensure they provide high quality services at the best value for money and collaborate with fundraising colleagues to create an impactful events programme underpinned by the highest standards of stewardship.
You will also take responsibility for managing the venue hire strategy to maximise income and drive a sales-focussed approach to increase the number and value of clients and bookings. Whether controlling budgets, monitoring effectiveness or identifying new event or income opportunities, you will play a key role in the ongoing success of the Library.
For this critical role, you must have experience of developing and implementing a successful fundraising events programme. Used to delivering an effective stewardship programme, you will also have sound knowledge of fundraising regulation. Highly organised, you will be good at building relationships, managing suppliers and networking with a diverse audience. An excellent communicator, you will be commercially astute and possess good negotiation, budgeting and project management skills.
