The London Library is an internationally important centre of creativity with an outstanding collection of books and resources. We are a registered charity dedicated to the advancement of education, learning and knowledge and are looking to recruit a professional with experience in library management to provide additional support during Friday and Saturday opening hours and take charge of the Library on occasion.

As Library Supervisor you will join a committed Members Services team and help supervise and deliver an effective reception as well as oversee lending and enquiry services for members and prospective members. This will involve ensuring we are prepared for business at the start of the day as well as helping shut the Library at closing time. You will make certain all loans are recorded and processed accurately, fetch and return books from locked stores, and conduct inductions and tours of our facilities. You will also work with the Member Services Librarian to improve procedures and develop staff. The ability to encourage colleagues to contribute effectively to the delivery and development of high-quality services to members will be critical.

To succeed, you must possess a librarianship qualification or have extensive experience in library management. You will be used to supervising staff providing circulation and enquiry services in an academic or large public library. You will also have sound knowledge of reference sources (print and electronic) in the Arts and Humanities.

In addition to your technical expertise, you will be highly organised with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. The Member Services department has a particularly high profile among the Library’s members and makes a vital contribution to the institution’s good relations with its members. Diplomacy, confidentiality as well as professionalism, are key features of this role.

If you have the skills we are looking for, we would be delighted to hear from you. Full details are available in our Candidate Information Pack below.
