If choosing which book to adopt proves too difficult, you can still help to meet the cost of the collection as a whole by making a donation to The Book Fund.

  • Adopt a new book and let us tell you which of the Library's 8,000 annual additions now proudly bears your name. A bookplate acknowledging your adoption costs:
  • 1 new volume - £50
  • 3 new volumes - £100
  • 15 new volumes - £500

Adopt a favourite book
  • Would you prefer to adopt your favourite book, or a book about an author, place or subject particularly meaningful to you? Then why not search the Library's catalogue and nominate the book you'd like to adopt for posterity. A bookplate acknowledging your donation costs:
  • 1 volume of your choice - £250
  • 3 volumes of your choice - £500
  • 10 volumes of your choice - £1,000
Adopt a rare book
Adopt a rare book
  • By adopting a rare book, you will help to ensure that our most extraordinary volumes - which date from the 16th century - are kept in perfect condition and that our conservators can continue to do their vital work. A bookplate acknowledging your donation will be placed either inside the book or on the archival box in which the volume is housed, dependent on its preservation status.
  • Even if your chosen rare book doesn't require immediate repairs, your adoption guarantees that we can come to the aid of other vulnerable books in the collection.
