Philip began his career as a solicitor, qualifying in 1996, and specialising in commercial law for the IT, media and publishing sectors. After completing an MBA at London Business School, Philip joined the British Museum in 2003. Over an 11 year period at the Museum, Philip’s roles included Head of Commercial and Director of International Engagement. He then worked as Director of Business Development at the Royal Albert Hall and Director of Development at Sadler’s Wells.

Mary Gillies BA (Hons) MA PgDip
Graduated from Roehampton Institute of Higher Education (now University of Roehampton) with BA (Hons) in Sociology and Women's Studies in 1996 and from the University of Westminster with an MA in Women's Studies in 2000. Worked as a library assistant for the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea Library Service whilst pursuing further study and gained a PgDip in Information Science from City University in 2003. Continued with the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea for nearly 10 years, first as a Customer Service Librarian; then Stock Librarian and eventually Senior Librarian: Adult Learning and Social Inclusion. As Senior Librarian: Adult Learning and Social Inclusion worked with NHS Kensington and Chelsea to develop the innovative Bibliotherapy Service. Joined The London Library as Reader Services Manager in October 2012.

Felicity joined The London Library as Membership Director in September 2017. She has worked in membership for over 12 years, most recently as Head of Membership and Business Development for maritime trade association The UK Chamber of Shipping, responsible for growing their membership and commercial activities. Prior to this Felicity managed Special Interest Groups for the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and worked in events for the British Institute of International and Comparative Law. Felicity graduated from LSBU with a BA in English and has an MA in Contemporary Approaches to English Studies from Goldsmiths.

Philip Spedding BCom
Having gained a business degree at the University of British Columbia, Philip has spent most of his working life in the arts. Having fundraised for the arts over a number of years, he joined Arts & Business and, over the subsequent 16 years, encouraged both businesses and arts organizations to recognize how they can work together for their mutual benefit. Businesses seeking his advice have ranged from American Express in New York and Samsung in Seoul to Deutsche Bank in London and Lexus in Vienna. He eventually became the Director of Arts & Business. He has sat on the UK Treasury’s Charity Tax Forum and has advised governments both in the UK and abroad on the development of private sector support of the arts, speaking on the subject in many countries including Albania, Canada, China, Russia, South Korea, Viet Nam and across both Europe and the UK. He also sits on the Management team of the Charity Tax Group, is the Vice Treasurer of the Lambeth Horticultural Society and is a trustee of Action for Children’s Art. He joined The London Library as their Development Director in May 2014.

Peter Hyde MSci ACA DChA
Peter graduated in 2001 from the University of Birmingham with an MSci (Hons) in Physics. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Sayer Vincent, a firm specialising in the not-for-profit sector, where he also received the ICAEW’s Diploma in Charity Accounting. He subsequently spent two and a half years auditing EU funded humanitarian aid projects with the accountancy firm PKF Littlejohn. He continued his career working in various finance roles for a number of organisations including CLIC Sargent, Malaria Consortium and most recently EveryChild where he was Head of Finance. He joined The London Library in January 2017.

Amanda Stebbings BA (Hons) MLib MCLIP
Graduated in 1990 from University College of Wales, Aberystwyth with BA (Hons.) in Welsh, having specialised in medieval Welsh prose and the Arthurian tradition in Welsh literature. Studied librarianship at University College of Wales, Aberystwyth and graduated in 1991 with an MSc in Library and Information Science. A chartered librarian since 1992, worked as an Assistant Librarian with Cambridgeshire Libraries until moving to be Area Children’s Librarian in the London Borough of Barnet in 1995. A period as Library Manager followed until being appointed Senior Librarian Adult Library Services in 2009, and subsequently appointed Service Development Team Leader in 2013. Joined The London Library in January 2014.

Judith Finnamore BA (Hons) MA
Began career working for The Priaulx Library, Guernsey. Studied Modern and Medieval Languages (French and German) at Cambridge University, graduating in 2005. Returned to Guernsey to work for the Guille-Allès Library as a library assistant and subsequently as subject librarian for the humanities. Worked for City University as an information assistant while undertaking professional studies at University College London; awarded MA in Library and Information Studies, 2008. Local Studies Librarian at Westminster City Archives, 2009-2014. Joined The London Library in 2014 as Head of Collection Care. Chartered Librarian in 2017.

Dunia Garcia-Ontiveros BA(Hons) MA MCLIP
Graduated from University College London in 1998 with a BA (Hons) in Archaeology, Classics and Classical Art. Between 1998 and 2000 worked as a graduate trainee at UCL's Library and then as a library clerk at the law firm Lovells. Went back to UCL and completed an MA in Library and Information Studies in 2001. Assistant Librarian at the College of Law of England and Wales from 2001 to 2003. Chartered Librarian in 2003, revalidated in 2010 and in 2013. Cataloguer at the Courtauld Institute of Art 2003-2005. Librarian at the National Maritime Museum 2005-2007. Joined The London Library in March 2007 as Head of Retrospective Cataloguing. Became Head of Bibliographic Services in 2011, following the merger of the Current and Retrospective Cataloguing teams.

Julian Lloyd BA, MSc
Julian joined The London Library as Head of Communications in May 2015 and has a wide-ranging background in communications and information publishing. Following an initial career in corporate strategy roles for the media group, United News & Media, Julian become Development Director of their UK exhibitions and information publishing arm. In 2003, he became Media Relations Manager at the National Trust, helping oversee the promotion of a range of property acquisitions, heritage and environmental campaigns and the handling of the Trust’s corporate communications. In 2008, he was appointed Communications Manager at Natural England - the government’s conservation adviser and regulator – managing the communication to public, government and stakeholder audiences of the agency’s high profile environmentalwork. Julian graduated from Cambridge University with a BA in History and has an MBA from the London Business School.

Helen O'Neill BA (Hons) MSC MRes MCLIP
Graduated in Modern Studies (Literature and Politics) in 1987. Worked as a library assistant for Leeds City Libraries, in both branch and Central libraries, before undertaking a PG Dip in Information Studies (passed with distinction) at Leeds Metropolitan University in 1992. Continued with Leeds City Libraries as an Assistant Librarian and thereafter as an Assistant Area Manager for a group of libraries in South Leeds. Appointed to the post of Guidance Information Officer in 1995. MSC in Information Studies attained with merit in 1995. Moved to London to take up the position of Business Information Librarian in Hackney Libraries in 1997. Joined the Corporation of London Libraries in 1998 as an Assistant Librarian at the Barbican Library. Appointed to the post of Acting Systems Librarian during the introduction of the People's Network at Barbican in 2002. Chartered 2003. Appointed to the post of Adult Lending Librarian at Barbican Library (2003-2006). Joined The London Library as Head of Reader Services (2006-2013). Following a full-time MRes at UCL researching the Library’s institutional archive Helen took up the position of Archive, Heritage and Development Librarian in September 2013.

Gill Turner MA MCLIP
Graduated Portsmouth Polytechnic (now University of Portsmouth) 1982 with BA (Hons) in Latin American Studies. A year of that course was spent in Xalapa, Mexico. 10 years spent in general bookselling, managing various branches of a chain in south east England, switched to librarianship in 1994 completing an MA in Library & Information Studies from University College London in 1995 for which a thesis on acquisition methods in public libraries was submitted. Joined The London Library in July 1995 as cataloguer/Spanish acquisitions librarian. Chartered Librarian in 1998. Acquisitions Support Librarian from May 1998 to 2003 and Head of Acquisitions since January 2004.

Building & Facilities Manager
Adam Dickins BSc PGDip
Graduated from University of Derby 2003 with a BSc (Hons) in Product Design, Innovation & Eco-design, followed in 2012 with a Post Graduate Diploma in Facilities Management from Sheffield Hallam University and has gained Certified membership of the British Institute of Facilities Management. Adam has worked within facilities management for a variety of sectors, including Daher Aerospace as their Facilities Development and Management Coordinator between Oct 2006 – Dec 2010 and the British Antarctic Survey as the Cambridge sites Facilities Manager from Jan 2011 – June 2013, which included a short tour to Britain’s Antarctic island bases. In late June 2013 Adam joined The London Library as the Building and Facilities Manager.

Will David MA MSc DipLib
Graduated from Lancaster University in 1985 with a BA (Hons) in History and Politics. Museum guide at the Pump Room and Roman Baths Museum, Bath 1986 to 1988, before embarking on a librarianship career, and graduating with an MA in Library and Information Studies from University College London in 1990. Returned to University College London part-time and graduated with a postgraduate MSc in Information Systems in 1998. Following brief periods at Birkbeck College Library, London and Christ Church Library, Oxford Will joined The London Library in 1990 as deputy head of the Loans Department. He became Librarian in charge of Information Technology in 1994.
