Damian Barr's Literary Salon with Jojo Moyes

We are delighted to be hosting the fabulous Damian Barr’s Literary Salon to celebrate the UK Premiere of The Giver of Stars, the new novel from bestselling author Jojo Moyes.

Inspired by true events and set in Depression-era America, the novel follows five extraordinary women on an unforgettable journey through the mountains of Kentucky and beyond, as part of Eleanor Roosevelt's new travelling library.

When Alice Wright leaves behind her stifling life in England to marry an American, she hopes for adventure. She soon becomes disenchanted by her new husband and his overbearing father, so, when Eleanor Roosevelt issues a call for a team of women to saddle up and deliver books to the poor, she signs up.

Alongside Margery, the smart-talking, self-sufficient daughter of a notorious local criminal and three other very different women, they become known as the Horseback Librarians of Kentucky. Despite danger from moonshiners to snakes, mountains to floods, against a backdrop of social disapproval and the Great Depression, the women push on, determined to bring books to people who have never had any, furnishing them with stories and arming them with facts that will change their lives.

Tickets include a LIMITED EDITION hardback proof copy of the book.
