In order to operate the Library safely we have reduced the number of staff in the Issue Hall and will be strictly controlling the number of members in the building.

In order to use the Library or collect books you will need to book a pass in advance, please do not turn up without booking.

There are two types of pass available:

Day pass – allows Library members to come in and browse the collection or work at a desk. Day passes are available from 10am on Monday to Friday and 9.30am on Saturday, these are valid from the time you book until the end the building closes. Normal closing times apply. Please ensure you arrive during the correct booking window.

Click and collect/return pass – if you have books to return or have been notified that your reserved books are ready you will need to book your collection slot. These short slots are available throughout the day. Please only book a collection slot if you have been notified that your books are ready to collect.

Passes will be available up to one week in advance and if you book a slot and are unable to attend, please use the link in your confirmation email to cancel or contact us on This email address is being protected from spambots. Please note, an update to the government guidelines mandates that it is necessary to wear face coverings in all areas of the Library from Saturday 8 August. If you are exempt from wearing a face covering you will be asked to confirm this on entry.
