The Library is a registered charity and receives no government funding or statutory grants: members' subscriptions together with generous donations and bequests are therefore vital to its survival and development.

 

ADOPT A BOOK

Adopting a The London Library is the perfect gift for any book lover, and every adoption helps develop and preserve the Library’s unique collection. Adopting a book can also be a special way to celebrate all kinds of occasions, from births and birthdays to anniversaries and graduations.

Choose a new book on a subject close to the recipient’s heart, or a favourite book from the Library’s collection of over one million titles. A bookplate will be placed inside the selected volume recording the adoption.

Adopt a New Book for £50

Each year The London Library develops the collection with over 8,000 new books. The gift includes:

  • The recipient’s name on a bookplate inside a new book
  • A personalised letter for the recipient
  • A set of five London Library postcards
  • A private tour of the Library for the recipient and a guest with the opportunity to see the bookplate in situ

Adopt a Favourite Book for £250

Choose a book by a favourite author, about a memorable place or on a subject that means the world to the recipient. The gift includes:

  • The recipient’s name on a bookplate inside a favourite book
  • A personalised letter for the recipient
  • A set of five London Library postcards
  • A London Library A6 notebook
  • A private tour of the Library for the recipient and a guest with the opportunity to see the bookplate in situ

Adopt a Book in memoriam

Adopting a book in memoriam can be a wonderful way to celebrate and commemorate the life of a loved one. A book can be adopted as a means to make a donation to the Library in your loved one’s name, or to celebrate a particular book which held a special place in their heart. Terms and Conditions:

  1. Please note that although we endeavour to fulfil your book of choice for Adopt a Favourite Book some books may already have existing bookplates. Where this occurs we will suggest a suitable alternative.
  2. Please allow up to three months for your bookplate to be placed in the book.
  3. If you have a preferred subject or area of interest when adopting a new book please let us know. Please note that if a subject is specified we cannot guarantee the bookplate will be in place within three months.
  4. Tours must be booked in advance and are dependent on Library staff availability.
