Sites have been grouped together into subject, with more general reference sites, including online encyclopedias and dictionaries being listed first.   • ADAM: subject gateway for arts, design, architecture and media. Includes links to 2,500 selected Internet resources.
  • AHDS Visual Arts: electronic archive of resources relating to the study and teaching of visual arts.
  • Architecture.com: 'architectural portals provided by the Royal Institute of British Architects.'
  • Art History Resources on the Web: an exhaustive collection of links to art history sites, from ancient times to the 21st century. Also contains a developing directory of museums and galleries worldwide.
  • Artists Papers Register: an electronic finding aid for the location of primary resources relating to British Artists. Hosted by the Historical Manuscripts Commission.
  • Bibliography of the History of Art: an index to articles that have appeared in selected Art journals and newspapers.
  • BUBL list of art resources
  • Centre for the Study of Cartoons and Caricature: based at the University of Kent, the Centre's catalogue is available online and includes images where available.
  • Great Buildings: 'collection of information about great buildings and architects from around the world. It includes images, 3-D models and bibliographies.'
  • Oxford Art Online: The innovative new gateway into art research and the access point for Oxford art reference subscriptions and publications.
  • Photo London: an on-line collection of over one million photos of the capital, from 1850 to the present day.
  • World-wide Arts Resources: brief descriptions of art movements and artists, with links to pictures of their work.

  • Oxford Text Archive: electronic texts of classic works of fiction (and non-fiction) can be made in a number of different formats.
  • Project Gutenberg: also offers freely downloadable electronic texts of classic works of fiction (and non-fiction). More extensive coverage than the Oxford Text Archive.
  • The Victorian Web: contains useful information relating to Victorian authors.
  • Chawton House Novels On-line: full-text of a number of rare eighteenth century novels.

Music

  • Archive of Dissertation Abstracts in Music: this is an archive of Music dissertation abstracts maintained by Royal Holloway, University of London.
  • Cecilia: Libraries, archives and museums with music holdings have submitted descriptions of their music collections, which have been collated to produce a web-based map of the UK's music resources.
  • Journal of Seventeenth-Century Music: JSCM is published by the Society for Seventeenth Century Music and provides a forum for scholarly studies of musical cultures of the seventeenth century. The full text of this journal is available on the Internet without subscription.
  • Music Research Links: this part of the British Library's website provides an alphabetical list of links to music-related websites and resources. It is targeted at musicologists, and some of the sites require a subscription.
  • Music Theory Online: this is the refereed electronic journal of the Society for Music Theory, which is published several times a year. The full text of this journal is freely available on the Internet.

  • REESWeb: a virtual library for Russian & East European Studies.
  • British Library guide to Russian internet resources: provides a good selection of links to resources ranging from russification software to government websites.  Includes a wide range of library and archive links.
  • Russian reference works: Stanford-hosted resource which gives indepth guidance to Russian-related reference information resources.
  • Little Russia in US: Nostalgic site about the Russian arts and also cookery and humour.  Provides some introductory information and links.
