The Josephine Hart Poetry Hour

featuring a selection of poems by TS Eliot

Thursday 18 October 2018

The London Library

The London Library is delighted to host The Poetry Hour, part of the Mayfair Times Mayfair and St James's Literary Festival, in partnership with the Josephine Hart Poetry Foundation.

The late, much-missed, novelist and theatre producer, Josephine Hart is known for launching the tradition of sell-out evenings of 'great poetry read by great actors' in London's West End in the late 1980s which continues to this day. Part of her formula for these events was to provide an insight into the poetry by relating the lives of the poets to their work in her introductions. On this occasion we will learn about her literary hero, TS Eliot, who was also President of the Library for 13 years up to his death in 1965.

Downton Abey actress Elizabeth McGovern will read from The Love Song of J Alfred Prufrock, Rhapsody on a Windy Night, Dedication to My Wife and The Hollow Men amongst other works, and there will be further readings during the evening from actress Deborah Findlay.

All profits go towards supporting The London Library.
